As of March 15, 2026, SSL/TLS certificates are allowed to be valid for a maximum of 200 days. In 2027, that will be 100 days. In 2029, only 47. Each step means certificates must be renewed more often. At 47 days, that's 12 times a year, per certificate.
Organizations still doing this manually are increasingly at risk of expired certificates, browser errors and downtime. New Yard handles it automatically, together with Sectigo.

Through the Sectigo Certificate Manager platform, we ensure that your certificates are automatically renewed through ACME, the protocol that Google, Apple and Mozilla designate as the standard for certificate automation.

We always start with an inventory of all active certificates in your environment. Which certificates do you have, on which systems are they running and when do they expire? Only when we have that overview do we set up the automation. Not a black box, but an approach you can follow.

Certificate management at New Yard is not a one-time project. We monitor on an ongoing basis, act on discrepancies and ensure that you never have to worry about an expired certificate again. You manage your organization, we manage the certificates.
What does New Yard do about SSL/TLS certificate management?
New Yard inventories all active SSL/TLS certificates in your environment, links them to automatic renewal via ACME and monitors the status on an ongoing basis. We work together with Sectigo as CA and set up the management so that certificate renewals run completely in the background, without manual intervention.

Introductory talk (free, 30 minutes). You talk about how certificate management is currently handled. We ask the right questions. No sales pitch, no standard presentation.

Inventory. We map all active SSL/TLS certificates, including the systems and applications that depend on them. You’ll know what’s running and where the risks are.

Implementation. We set up automation through the Sectigo Certificate Manager platform and ACME. For systems that cannot be fully automated, we coordinate an alternative method of operation.

Ongoing management and monitoring. After implementation, we keep our finger on the pulse. You receive notifications when something requires attention. The rest proceeds automatically.

1. What is SSL/TLS certificate management and why is it important?
An SSL/TLS certificate proves that your website or application is who it claims to be and encrypts traffic between the server and the visitor. If a certificate expires without renewal, visitors will see a security warning in their browser. Certificate management is the process of tracking, renewing and installing those certificates. With a maximum term of 200 days (current) and later 47 days, that process becomes too complex for manual management.
2. Why has the maximum term of SSL/TLS certificates been shortened?
The CA/Browser Forum, supported by Google, Apple and Mozilla, has decided to incrementally reduce the maximum duration. The reasoning: the shorter a certificate is valid, the smaller the risk window in the event of a compromise. Moreover, it forces organizations toward automation, which is structurally more secure than manual management. The vote was completed on April 11, 2025. 3. What happens when a certificate expires?
Visitors to your Web site or users of an application see a large security warning in their browser: “Your connection is not private.” Many users then click away. Besides reputational damage, you also risk downtime of systems, data breaches and non-compliance. Recovery costs are structurally higher than the cost of preventive management.
4. What systems does ACME automation work for?
We identify which systems in your environment support ACME automation. For systems that do not, we look for an alternative way of working. We agree on this during the inventory phase.
5. What does certificate management through New Yard cost?
We work with a subscription model per certificate per month. The exact price depends on the number of certificates and the complexity of your environment. Please contact us for a customized proposal.
6. Is this also relevant to smaller organizations?
Yes. The reduced durations apply to all public SSL/TLS certificates, regardless of the size of the organization. Especially for organizations with a small IT department, automation is not a luxury, but a necessity. New Yard focuses on organizations with 10 to 1,000 users, particularly in Limburg, Brabant and Gelderland.
7. What is the difference between Sectigo and New Yard in this story?
