Microsoft announced on Dec. 4, 2025 that several Microsoft 365 suites will be expanded with new features in the areas of AI, security and management. At the same time, prices for each package will increase significantly starting July 1, 2026. For organizations, this represents both a challenge and an opportunity to improve the digital workplace.
In this article, we explain what’s changing, what it means for your organization and what steps you can take to stay safe and efficient.

New AI functionalities for Microsoft 365
One of the biggest changes is the expansion of AI capabilities across all Microsoft Business, Office 365 and Microsoft 365 bundles.
- Copilot Chat: All users get access to Copilot Chat, which can understand and support your inbox and calendar. For administrators, there are enterprise-ready options to secure, manage and measure Copilot Chat.
This extension makes it easier to automate time-consuming tasks, manage emails and calendar items faster and increase employee productivity.
Enhanced email security
Security remains one of the most important pillars of a digital workplace. Microsoft adds advanced email security features:
- Microsoft Defender for Office: Available in Plan 1 for Office 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 E3.
- URL checks: Office 365 E1, Business Basic and Business Standard get protection against malicious websites through links in email or Office apps.
These enhancements help organizations reduce cyber risks and ensure a secure digital workplace.
Better management of devices
New endpoint management capabilities will become available to Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 customers:
- Intune Remote Help and Intune Advanced Analytics
- Intune Plan 2 for comprehensive device management
- Microsoft 365 E5 customers get additional options such as Endpoint Privilege Management, Enterprise Application Management and Microsoft Cloud PKI
These features give IT teams greater control over AI usage, compliance and secure user experiences.
Security Copilot agents
Security Copilot is being rolled out for all Microsoft 365 E5 customers. Existing customers already have access, new access will be rolled out in phases with 30 days advance warning.
These agents help IT teams detect, analyze and respond to threats, making the digital workplace more secure.
Price changes effective July 1, 2026
Microsoft announces a price increase per package effective July 1, 2026:

What does this mean for your organization?
It is important to consider the new features and the impact of the price change:
- Check which Microsoft 365 packages your organization uses.
- See if the new AI and security features fit your organization’s needs.
- Consider switching to another package in a timely manner if it is more financially or functionally beneficial.
- Take measures to ensure secure use of the digital workplace, for example, by optimizing IT management and endpoint management.
Conclusion
Microsoft 365 becomes more powerful with new AI, security and management capabilities. At the same time, prices are increasing up to 33%, especially for F1 and F3 users.
For organizations, this means a time to reflect on the digital workplace: are the current packages still appropriate? Are employees optimally supported? Is IT security in order?
